Handwork
I designed this quilt from a photograph I made when visiting the Genesee Country Village, a living history museum near Rochester, NY. This scene caught my eye - the interior of an 1800's log cabin and a view out its window. I am impressed that everything in this scene was formed by hand: walls, table, pottery, pewter plates, garden, neighboring cabin, and my addition of a "log cabin" quilt square resting with needle and thread. This moment in time, first captured in a museum restoration, followed by my visit with a camera, and now with fabric and machine, is a fond reminder of the handwork era of our northeastern states.
